Sequestration Recap and Future Cafes

Our first café was a success! Topics included sequestration, science outreach, education, and the philosophical role of public funding for research. Here are some of photos from the other night:

We are planning the next event and would like your input. If you have any topic ideas, post them here or send us an email and we’ll work on finding an expert to lead the café. Additionally, if you would like to lead a discussion that could be related to your own work, send us an email and we can coordinate a future café.

First Science Cafe

Greetings -
Our first science cafe is set for Thursday May 2, 2013. The inaugural topic will concern public funding of research agencies such as NASA or the National Institutes of Health. Dr. Eric Murphy, associate professor in the department of Pharmacology, Physiology, and Therapeutics; has agreed to lead the discussion. We look forward to an engaging and spirited conversation involving the impact of research to society and the consequences of cuts in funding brought on by the current economic environment. All are welcome to attend and contribute to the discussion. The location is set for Wild Hogs Smokehouse Bar & Grill located at 4401, 44th Ave S, Grand Forks, ND.

The goal of the Grand Forks Science Cafe is to provide a forum for those interested in science and a mechanism to reach a broader audience. If you are interested in leading a cafe, suggesting a topic, or simply want more information, please email GFSciCafe@gmail.com.
